Soaking feets at Sembawang Hot Spring
Gone are the ‘good old days’ when only a few souls come here for foot therapy, ‘shower’ & even boiling eggs / potatoes.
Lots of flowering plants ☘are placed along the path leading to Sembawang hot spring, replacing the boring fences encircling Chong Pang Camp .
( NParks have officially taken over land from Mindef )
This gives many nature lovers opportunity to photograph their favourite pc.

The temperature of water in the Sembawang hot spring ranges from 60 to 70 degrees celsius. It may be a bit hot for some of us. Not all are suitable to dip their legs in the spring water. Whats in Spring Water ?
(by The Straits Times 23 April 2016)
“The water is rich in minerals and believed to have curative effects. When The Sunday Times sent the water for testing in 2002, it was found to have substantially more chloride, and three times more sulphide content than tap water. Due to its mineral content, the water is slightly alkaline.
The spring water is said to cure rheumatism, and heal skin problems such as acne or psoriasis. Doctors said there is no scientific evidence to back up these claims. However, the heat of the water can relax muscles and joints.”

Precautions
“A carpenter lost six toes back in 2002 after soaking his feet in the hot spring water. Mr Lai Soo Han, who was 57 then, suffered from diabetes and was hoping to benefit from the water’s supposedly therapeutic qualities.
But his condition affected his blood circulation, and he scalded his feet badly without feeling any pain.
Mr Lai said he had immersed his feet in a basin of spring water for 30 minutes. When he got home, blisters formed and his wounds later became gangrenous. He ended up losing three toes on each foot.
The Singapore General Hospital issued an advisory then to warn that people with nerve disorders or diseases affecting blood circulation should stay away from the hot spring.”
If u worry about sharing buckets, u may also bring your own pail/container that can withstand temperature of 60 to 70 degree Celsius. Then the risk of skin infection by previous user can be avoided.
