The Truth About Warehouse Sales and Amy Cheong Incidents Via Facebook and Twitter

Warehouse sales in Singapore seem to have topped our web statistics than any other news online.

Take for example the recent Charles and Keith Pedro Warehouse Sale which ended on the 7th Oct 2012 fetched 769 page views on a single day. The news on Amy Cheong's racist remarks only garnered slightly over 450 page views on another blog we posted on 8th Oct.

Amy Cheong's Viral Message
Amy Cheong hit the news when online users posted their tweets about her personal racist remarks on a wedding ceremony that took place at a void deck in Singapore. Apparently she was woken up early and that caused her to make some unfriendly remarks which is better not to mention here.
Many online citizens tweeted with a screen capture of her facebook remarks. Thereafter, she realised too late that her 1 generic remark could have caused so much fury among many people. That sent Amy hastily responding and sending apologetic replies to the tweets directed to her. She explained that it was a silly and not a racist comment.
Did her apologies work? The next morning she was being questioned by her employer (NTUC) about her facebook postings and was sacked the very same day! Why the harsh decision you may ask. Reason being Amy is an Assistant Director of a department in that company which plays a major role in Singapore. In order to maintain racial harmony and peace, NTUC has to make a swift decision to sack her in order to make peace. Therafter, a police report was also filed against her.

Charle & Keith Warehouse Sale
In comparison to the above online incident, this warehouse sale attracted more than the usual attention. On the last day of Charles and Keith's warehouse sale, we took a peek at the conversations of twitter users.
We found that more than 50 people are tweeting about the promotions of Charles & Keith shoes which are under S$10 and how some crazy shoppers brought back bags of shoes just on that last day of sale! Many also tweeted about the condition of the warehouse sale, how long the queue was and included pictures of the situation.
Doesn't that showed us that majority of people in Singapore are still very much concerned about warehouse sales rather than other online issues?
Shopping is still one of the top agenda where people loved to engage in. The internet being viral with the use of facebook and twitter made it easier for warehouse sale's information to be shared among liked minded friends or strangers.
The open nature of the internet environment and the ease of use had made it so much conducive for people to post their personal views and how viral it can be. A simple posting can make people happy by sharing useful information. On the other hand, a nasty remark can cause great enmity among people too.
The morale of the story is to watch what we say on the internet and the use of social media can be very powerful markeing tools for business owners and advertisers.
Try using facebook or twitter and tell us if it is working for your business.
